(Belated!) Day 70: Stumbling Steps

In Which Our Hero Writes a Letter

Project Title: The Mistress of Frosthaven
Genre: YA – Dark Fantasy
Words Today: 1,369
Running Total: 39,996
Scrap Draft: (V1.0 = 31,142), V2.0 = 9,640

Aw, man! If I’d realized I was four words within shooting distance of 40k, I might have been a bit more verbose last night. Notably, yes, I forgot to post my update for yesterday evening, but all was well. Just got distracted by Parks & Rec and wine when Hubby finished his work earlier than expected.

Session went fine, though I did have to stumble through the beginning a bit, trying a few separate paragraphs before finding the real entry point for the sequence I needed to write. LET ME TELL YOU: This thing is going to require some major cutting in Draft 2. I can tell I’m being very self-indulgent and not every sequence moves the story forward as quickly as it should (it’s more of a…meandering…weedy path…) But that’s for the dreaded D2, and not for now. Still, I wish I were closer to midpoint by the 40k mark… I knew I might be pushing my 80k estimate (the V2.0 is much, much, much more detailed and longer than V1.0 which was well on-track for 80k, but at least V2.0 is much more interesting.) Looking at my outline, I’m stressing a little that midpoint is going to take a bit longer to get to than I was hoping, and I really, really need to up the tension. BUT! I soldier on, and hopefully things will start picking up soon. I’ve got some interesting (and dark) sequences coming up, and I’m hoping those will propel me forward at a better clip.
