Shiny Thing – Flash Friday

A bit late today, though not for lack of trying! I hand wrote this story while my lovely mother swung by the office on her way to do some other errands to pick up my laptop charger. OH, THE SHAME. This is what happens when I don’t get to the office regularly enough–I forget things!

This week’s story is inspired by a painting seemingly attributed to painter Malcolm Liepke of a woman with wild black hair and a ruffled black dress (I’ve tried to confirm this, but it’s turning out to be hard to get a firm answer. It’s certainly in his style, and there are some of his other paintings that seem to portray the same woman, but that *specific* painting is seemingly very hard to find a title/date for from any official-looking site featuring his work. All my reference points are Pinterest and Flickr, which hardly seems 100% credible. If you can find it, please let me know so I can attribute it properly!)

I also broke out my newly arrived Writer’s Emergency Pack (I’ve got the XL version), which I backed as a Kickstarter some time ago. It was surprisingly helpful, not just in generating a story for this week, but for stimulating a scene for my WIP which I just had to hammer out. Downright charming! This one’s also inspired, I’m sure, by reading a lot of Junji Ito’s Tomie this week. If you know it, you’ll see it. ^_-
